Training of youth leaders in the field of rural
leadership,
sustainable development and poverty reduction
Content
of the training:
1)
training in leadership skills and
competencies (i.e. skills to formulate and communicate new ideas and
options, skills to find mentorship and guidance, self-confidence, skills
for good communication, presentation skills, negotiation skills, skills
for organizational management, competencies in the field of group
dynamics, teamwork and decision-making, skill transfer, accountability,
skills for lobbying, time management)
2) training on sustainable
development:
- the three pillars of sustainable development – environmental, social
and economic;
- international cooperation in the field of sustainable development,
with a focus on EU-African, EU-China and EU-Asia cooperation and
trilateral cooperation between China, Africa and the EU;
- key social, economic, and environmental problems on the national and
global level, and their interrelation;
- how to educate rural communities and raise awareness on sustainable
development issues and sustainable lifestyles;
- presentations and discussions, focused on participants’ local-level
experiences.
3) Training on poverty
reduction:
- international cooperation in poverty reduction (e.g. Millennium
Development Goals), with
an emphasis on EU-African, EU-China and EU-Asia cooperation and,
trilateral cooperation between China, Africa and the EU;
- measures to combat poverty in rural areas and to improving the
livelihood of rural communities;
- presentations and discussions, focused on the participant’s experience
on the local level.
4)
training in skills for community
capacity building:
- best practices for community engagement, problem solving skills,
crisis management within the community, conflict resolution within the
community, building relationships of support and providing guidance to
community members);
- gender issues and effective ways of involving women in sustainable
rural development initiatives;
- evaluation of work, communication and learning outcomes.
Participants in trainings:
Three young people selected by each partner organization.
Participants should
be aged 16-30 and should have a demonstrated commitment to:
a) community development
b) youth leadership and/or youth work.
They will be selected by the respective partner organizations.
