2006-07 A Socrates Comenius School Project of the European Union
2007-09 A Comenius Project of a Multilateral School Partnership within the Lifelong Learning Programe of the European Union
The project is carried out in 2006-2009 by a group 6 partnership schools from Lodz and Rzeszow (Poland), Custoias (Portugal), Procida and Taormina (Italy) as well as Varna (Bulgaria). Five of those schools formed as a team and began their cooperative work during a contact seminar in Dobieszkow near Lodz, Poland in September 2005, organised by local institutions in cooperation with the Network of European Alimentary Culture (NEAC), an organisation patroning our project, and the Socrates Comenius Polish National Agency in Warsaw (now the Foundation for the Development of the Education System). Soon after the seminar we were glad to be joined by the Procida school, the sixth project participant.
The project activities are meant to arouse our pupils, teachers and the schools' local communities interest in the alimentary traditions of their countries, explore the eating habits of our regions focusing on the aspect of healthy nutrition and, eventually, encourage all the project participants to give more attention to the composition of their daily menus by enriching them with healthy food products, originating in many cases from their own regions. Promoting healthy nutrition habits is part of a more general idea of adopting healthy lifestyles, so important for the overall health condition of the European people in the age of fast-food culture and passive leisure-time activities.
Another, and by far the most significant aspect of the cooperation between our countries is developing our common European identity through the process of becoming acquainted with our national cultures and traditions, exchanging information, sharing experiences as well as establishing contacts and making friendships with the inhabitants of various European countries.
